Packages automatically uninstalling?

Looks like it might be a bug. Found one issue related to an older version of the alternate CD, which was fixed; and another that is still being looked at:

Thanx Victor (and Arthur).  Seems odd not to include it.  Partition editing is such a 
fundamental task.  I used to keep a Debian diskette around just so I could use cfdisk on 
Windows computers. gparted is nicer, but doesn't seem as powerful.

But what happened to GRUB?  I selected the "Install" option from the live CD, and 
everything seemed to install smoothly except for the boot loader.  Shouldn't GRUB be 
installed by default?
