@Alfred:

Does the error look anything like this?

Secure Connection Failed
gaia.lbl.gov uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed.
(Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer)
    * This could be a problem with the server's configuration, or it
could be someone trying to impersonate the server.
    * If you have connected to this server successfully in the past,
the error may be temporary, and you can try again later.
          Or you can add an exception…

As Tony was saying, this is desired to force the user to accept a
self-signed security ticket. Anyone can self-sign a security ticket
which makes it inherently less secure. Companies pay big money to get
a third party to sign their tickets, so if PayPal or whoever you're
dealing with self-signs their tickets, you might want to avoid them.

If you trust it, you can always click 'Or you can add an exception…' >
'Add Exception' > 'Get Certificate' > 'Confirm Security Exception'.
4-step process to make sure the user understands the implications I
guess.

@everyone:

Hello Canada! Saying 'hi' from Peterborough, ON!
