New install of Hardy not updating packages!?!

Actually I've seen this mess up hardy too:
sudo: unable to resolve host NAS
If you change the host name after installing it doesn't update the
/etc/hosts file. Somehow this affects bash-completion and a couple of
other things like sudo.
In my experience with this issue I think I've always had to use Recover
Mode to edit the hosts file (as a sudo vi /etc/hosts dies when it can't
resolve your hostname) and make sure that 127.0.1.1 is mapped to your
host name (in this case NAS).
