Hi Laurie:

***I have two drives on both of my computers, and they both recognize the
drives.I have Hardy on both of them.I don't know if it is something with
your install.***

My computer sees the Drives, it's just that in 8.04 it can not mount the
drive being used for ADD CD in Synaptic, or Software Sources. So I
removed a drive, now it works, but then More problems. Murphy's Law!

You may be right! Lets say I'm one of those people that supplies the
repository on DVD's. I'd need some DVD Duplicating Machines. How many
DVD's could I duplicate on one of these machines in a day? If I had to
verify them how many then?
Just before 8.04's software sources crashed, it said that many of the
packages were corrupted. Which means that Verify was probably not used.
So the Software on DVD's that I bought most likely has all kinds of DROP
OUTS on it this time. 5.10 and 6.06 worked fine, no drop outs, but the
first version and the second, reported these problems with the 8.04
Repositories, so I guess DVD's is not the way to go! So my Install of
8.04 came on one of these DVD's, and if it had drop-outs, well that
would make the install different! The Packages that are corrupted, it
didn't let on which ones they were.

7.10 had a few glitches at first, but now it is working well. I could
start over with 8.04, but then I'd have to download that 350 megs of
upgrades again on Dial up, and that pushed the hydro bill higher than it
has ever been!

I'm looking at getting a non fan computer - Fanless. It has all the
ports, and might be the size of four old Jewel cases in a stack. Very
low Wattage, runs on 5 Volts only, can be run off a Solar Panel. Does
not get hot at all. It's slower, but it can run any OS, Ubuntu, Windows,
etc. It's silent, no fan noises. All the peripherals make use of USB.
See these Towers use up towering Hydro, and so running them for any kind
of time, makes them cost much more, especially here in Ontario, where
the Delivery now costs about 40-80 Bucks a month, the Debit retirement
costs, and we were the ones that protested Nuclear, now we got to pay
for it too! The few bucks of electricity we use, would be OK, except for
all these surcharges, making the bill very big! So I may spend a few
bucks more at first, but then the bill might be lower for a long time.
Still no High speed here that works.

Alfred!

Hi:
****A few months ago I asked about Ubuntu 8.04, and using CD's and DVD's
with the repositories on them, as an alternative to downloading Upgrades
and Packages with dial-up. A few other people wanted to go this route
too. I posted a bug on the bug list of launchpad about it, but no one
could see this as being a bug. I updated the information on this bug,
but no one even bothered to look at it!****

Determined to find out, I tried all kinds of things to get this
working, all day today. When I removed my second CDROM, made my DVD
Burner the Master
drive, and tried to add a CD using apt-cdrom -d /media/cdrom add

it now works.

This has been a problem for me since 8.04 has been released. Some
change was made in 8.04, which gets two CD Drives mixed up. So you that
bought repositories on CD's and DVD's have one CDROM Drive, or DVD
Drive in your machine, and then things work in 8.04.
