help request

I did make a cd with Xubuntu, some  time ago, with Bit Torrent doing the 
downloading of an ISO,  onto my HD...I have lost the printout of the 
instructions, explaining the procedure...
Similarly, I am having some trouble in downloading a viable Linux ISO, 
complete (using Windows XP, (how to complete the DL'ing without the 
Machine shutting down, or interrupting the process)?
