It probably depends on your exact setup, but often this is actually set
by the monitor itself.  Most desktop monitors will have three or more
buttons along the bottom or side edge, a menu button and two for
increment/decrement.  On the ones I've used, what you would need to do
is press the menu button, be presented with some sort of option on the
screen, use the arrow buttons to cycle through to "horizontal size",
select by pressing the menu button again, then use the up (or right)
arrow to increase until the screen is filled, then press menu again to
go back, and find "vertical size" and repeat, then press menu multiple
times to exit entirely.
