ATI Radeon x850 XT Platinum Edition

Hi folks,
It seems I need a little information. I've recently been able to install
Kubuntu 7.04, as it has detected my ATI Radeon x850 XT Platinum Edition
video card. All previous versions of K/X/Ubuntu did not recognize this card
and would freeze part way through booting up into the live CD (I've tried
finding the answer here <http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=330118>).
Luckily, things work in 7.04. My card has been detected, and I have a more
or less nice looking display.
Nonetheless, I would like to know if the driver "ati" as it's called on my
system is doing being all it can be? It seems I can only display at 1024x768
@ 60 MHz.
I'm just curious...I can live with my machine the way it is, or I can make
modifications if it won't mess my system. I really don't feel like changing
things up in Xorg too much...the last time I tried something like that on
another machine, I kept running into trouble with the machine rebooting (see
here <http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=445004>).
