need help installing ubuntu. requesting in-person help

I'm thinking this is a problem with Ubuntu detecting your Video Card.
I notice it's an ATI, that card will work with Ubuntu, but I find
sometimes the Live CD's don't detect the cards very well.   Are you
doing a live install or a text install?

Have you tried doing a the text install.  That's usually what I do
then when I first boot up I install

   xorg-driver-fglrx
   linux-restrictred-modules$(uname -r)

Something like that anyway.  Word on the street is that ATI will have
open source drivers available.  When I don't know hopefullly sooner
rather than later.
