wpa_supplicant and network-admin

I am trying to connect to various wireless networks using WPA-TKIP. I
have created the file /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf using lines derived using
wpa_password and added the following lines to /etc/network/interfaces:

auto eth1
iface eth1 inet dhcp
pre-up wpa_supplicant -Bw -Dndiswrapper -ieth1 \
-c/etc/wpa_supplicant.conf
post-down killall -q wpa_supplicant

However, when I open the networking program, network-admin, I don't see
that the wireless card is enabled, and I can't enable it unless I
specify a wireless network and password. Also, this only seems to work
for WEP networks.

I have recently upgraded to 6.10 from 6.06. Under 6.06 I was able to
select a wireless network from the drop-down list, but this no longer
works. Has anyone been able to use wpa_supplicant successfully under
6.10?
