PRINTER RECOMMENDATIONS ANYONE? (Maurice Murphy)

With the latest release of Ubuntu, there is a set of excellent HP printer
drivers included. At my work we have an HP 4650 Color laser with
networking, duplex, legal and letter trays and it works flawlessly. Printer
support has increased dramatically over the last couple of years.

As far as selection of printer goes, my preference is always a laser
printer. It is economically cheaper for you to purchase a laser printer
than to buy an inkjet. Even color laser printers are cheaper. An HP Color
laser can be had for as low as 350cdn.

If you are looking to print digital photos you have taken, I would really
suggest that you put your pictures on a stick or other type of removable
media and go to your local photo developer and get prints made directly to
real kodak paper for $0.25 each.

If you need scanning capability for photos your $100.00 multifunction
printer will probably dissappoint you. Get a scanner that has photo
capability built into it.

Hi Everyone,

I'm aware of the Un*x printer compatibility listing, which is really
extensive and provides quite a challenge in terms of matching compatible
printers to availability at an appropriate price. Nevertheless, it is
really helpful. However, I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for
colour inkjet, laser (b/w) or multifunction printers that they have found,
through hands on experience, to work well with Edgy.

Have a grand St. Patrick's Day. (What's left of it!)

I have an HP PSC-1310 (printer-scanner-copier multifunction). It has
worked perfectly since Hoary. Others in the series (1210, 1610, etc)
would probably work as well (this model is a couple of years old).

Hi,
I am a brand new user of Linux programs. I installed Ubuntu 6.0.6 and
liked it enough to pay for the complete set of 6.10 Edgy Eft. (six
DVDs). I tried installing as an update from the dvds, and when it was
finished it started to boot, and then stuck at the boot screen with the
Ubuntu logo on it. Can the new distribution be installed completely by
booting from the #1 dvd, instead of as an update. When I installed as
an update, I had to wait quite a while for the files to download.
It was my understanding that the 6 dvds contained the complete program
and all the files would be on the dvds.
Please correct me if I am wrong, and advise me as to what the problem
could be. thanks
Tony
