Feisty screen resolution problem

Hi Rachel;

You're getting close!

You need to boot into 'buntu and hold down the ctrl-alt keys and press
[backspace]

This gets you to a terminal (black screen)

Login as you normally do and then do the following:

1. sudo /etc/init.d gdm stop

2. sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

And answer all the questions the best you can, as the defaults are usually
ok, except for selecting intel for video and check the resolution you want
to ensure that 1280x800 is included.

You should be good to go!

When that's finished, enter startx at the system prompt to restart gdm and
see what you have.

Cheers!

Thanks for replying, Wolf:
I tried auto915Resolution at HYPERLINK
"http://roland-lopez.blogspot.com/2007/03/auto915resolution-ubuntu-resolutio
n-fix.html"
\nhttp://roland-lopez.blogspot.com/2007/03/auto915resolution-ubuntu-resoluti
on-fix.html
and another page (I forget the address) that gives directions for Xorg.conf
file tweaking. The video card on my computer is Intel 945. (Screen
resolution for Windows is 1280 x 800 and that is okay so I would expect
that is what I want in Ubuntu as well.)
As a consequence of all the tweaking around I've been doing, my mouse now
jumps all over the place. I don't want to reload Feisty because I managed
to establish an Internet connection and I'm not sure that I could do it
again. (Yes, I'm green.)
Ciao,
Rachael

Rachel;

Can you tell us what you tried, what video card you are using and what
monitor size/resolution you want/have?
Cheers,

Wolf

Hello -- Need help with adjusting screen resolution. Someone (that would be
Patrick at the Linuxcaffe Ubuntu users meeting about six meetings ago)
helped me adjust it for Edgy, but I forgot what the adjustment was. Nothing
I've read and tried so far for Feisty is working -- everything remains
squished. Anyone know what I need to do? (Patrick, are you out there?)
Ciao.
Rachael
