gcc-3.3 cannot create 32-bit output

libc6-i386, libc6-dev-i386 works for gcc-4.1, but when I try gcc-3.3
-m32 test.c, it whines about not being able to find a compatible
libgcc.a
I'm trying to recompile grub(with gfxboot patch) and new grub
segfaults and shows bad values (128K lower / -140GB upper memory). I
want to try compiling with gcc-3.3, but without the correct 32bit
libraries, grub won't compile at all (-m32 is part of grub CFLAGS in
every Makefile)

And no, I will not install SuSE just for gfxboot
