Helane,

There seems to be some issues with wifi in feisty.
Perhaps I can help.

Please exit from knetworkmanager or kwifimanager and try wlassistant. 
You can not use both knetworkmanager or kwifimanager and wlassistant. 
knetworkmanager or kwifimanager will grab the essids preventing wlassistant from managing them.

If wlassistant is not all ready installed,
sudo apt-get update
sudo aptitude install wlassistant

Does this help? There are a few other thinks we can try as well.
