While I'm not a big fan of w32codecs, this wiki page shows how to get it
via apt-get (that and other non-free applications), in a repository
specifically for Ubuntu:
   http://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/doc/plf

(and don't be alarmed by the "fr" in the url...that page is in
english...)
