I have Lyx available for installation from Synaptic when I enable "Community
maintained Open Source software (universe)".

You might like to investigate using Automatix, which I also have available
thru Synaptic when Universe is enabled.

Evolution doesn't take much space. I think removing it is very difficult,
but just ignore it and it won't do much harm. You can reset your default
email handler to something you like better, like Thunderbird. You can also
edit the menu so it doesn't show up.
