should we have a hard copy of winXP while we are buying a computer

You should demand a refund on the OS. In the licence agreement MS makes
you agree to (if you want their OS) says you can get your money back on
the OS if you DO NOT agree to the licence. It's been done before. Not
easy, but it can be done.
