Hardware Firewall?

Hi Now and then there are ports opened on my Computer,37777 and the
lights on my Hardware modem are flashing like mad! One day while setting
up my Scanner in Xsane there was this extra option for a Virtual
scanner, Google tried to open a port on my Software firewall at about
the same time. Some days the modem lights flash, and something is being
uploaded, to a mirror web site. Yet I did not activate that upload. I
want to be able to stop these intrusions!!! I just Locked the firewall
then turned off the modem! So perhaps you don't get bugged this way but
I do!
