Noobie with Ubuntu and Linux Please Help

It doesn't work at all? Is that dialup or an adsl/dsl type of internet
connection with Bell Sympatico?  I'm using Telus DSL here in B.C, and
internet connection in Ubuntu just worked automatically for me.
