Hi all,
After some exchange on Ububtu-ca with theantix and avanspronsen, i take
some time to write you down some personnal opinions. Fill free to debate
those arguments or even start a polemic ;).
1. First of all, sorry for my pore english, i'll try to do my best.
2. It's seems that we agree, the canadian local community of Ubuntu
exist for many reasons.
a. Regroup Ubuntu users from the same geographical aera (even if
Canada is extremly vast !), this is the basic. Creating some subgroups
for the local events, but the global policy of the Ubunt-ca will remain
united.
b. To help the diffusion of Ubuntu thrue Canada, for this we have to
contact the LUG, organize some install parties, etc. Some of us proposed
to connect with some computer retailler to promote Ubuntu and why not
sell computers with Ubuntu pre-install. I was one of those... suddently
a question comes to me. From a legal point of view regards to the Ubuntu
creators, can we do that ? how can we be sure that the computer
retailler will not earn money with Ubuntu ?
c. promoting Ubuntu, like all Linux system, is a kind of crusade
against Windows. So how can we make Ubuntu fearless. Beyond diffusing
the good, we have to help new users in this new world. Maybe we could
propose a kind of technical help for newbie canadian users on the
community site. Let explain myself, for a newbie Linux word is scary and
he can fell alone and lost. So why don't we help them. Showing them the
way to conquest this world. They have problems, we try to find them
WHERE (and not how, this is tech forum purpose) they can find the answer.
3. I think as a bilinguale nation, our group should emphasis on the
french-english traduction job (for those who did not code). And why not
a inuit version (not sure it's allready exist).
Hope i will have some returns on this.
See you on #Ubuntu-ca. Oh by the way, INRSboy and shadowing are the same
person, me. Just have 2 computers.
Antoine.
