Not sure it is related to the problem or if it can help but the
properties of the unusable video DVDs says that filesystem of the disc
is "isofs", while a DVD properly burnt with Windows (which is playable)
has a "udf" filesystem.

Also, when I say that the DVDs burnt with Brasero are unreadable, it
means that they are not recognized as video DVDs by Totem, VLC or such.
The icon of the disc appear on the desktop and I can browse the files. I
can play the VOB files by manually opening them with VLC but the menu
and interactions are not usable.
