With 2.30.2 (lucid) I get a similar error, but with a somewhat meaningful message: 
"Please install the following manually and try again: cdrdao (application)."

cdrdao 1:1.2.2-18ubuntu4 (lucid) is installed correctly and works when
operated on the command line
