Follow up: My DVD burner is " DVD A DH20A4P".

I found in the system settings, a "K3B setup". I opened this and found
that there are some options I may need to try, that possibly got unset
at some point (although I know I didnt manually do this).

in system settings, under K3B setup, under devices, there is a checkbox
for changing permissions on the device, and also for these external
programs, "cdrdoa and cdrecord". Permissions for these programs is now
0755 root root, with an option (it looks like) to set new permissions to
4711. (I'm not sure what 4771 permission means, "Symbol in the position
0 ("-")is the type of the file. It is either "d" if the item is a
directory, or "l" if it is a link, or "-" if the item is a regular
file.")

the Listed groisofs program has 0755 root root, but there is no checkbox
to change it, and and in the "new permissions" column, there is "no
change". I presume this to mean that one cant change growisofs in the
setup.

I am on a remote session so I cant test these changes currently.
