I just got the exact same problem on Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit trying to burn a data DVD. It ejected the dvd and was on 100% cpu and the burn status was at 50% (as seen from window title, as it didn't update the screen anymore).
It's a shame that this is still a bug after 2 years.
