When the tablet is unplugged, X starts with no problem, but crashes almost immediately after I plug in the tablet. Logs say error due to conflict between mouse and the tablet.

Not to jump in on this, since it doesn't much matter anymore... But I
had a problem with my DVD burner as well. The cause was the mountpoint
and a config file that was left over from the earlier version. All that
it took to fix it was to delete /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-cd.rules
and reboot... Well actually I moved the file to my home directory just
in case I needed it... Seems this was causing the problem. It gets
regenerated on reboot.

So if you're having problems this might be worth a shot... Some bugs
come from changes between versions with old config files laying around.
