I'm having this problem in 8.04 Hardy Heron.

Machine is a Dell D620 laptop, using built in DVDRW.

/usr/lib/nautilus-cd-burner/list_cddrives
Drive:
  name: DVD+-RW GSA-T11N
  device: /dev/scd0
  door: closed
  type: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+R DL, DVD+RW, CD, DVD
  is mounted: FALSE
  max read speed:	11080 KiB/s (CD 73.8x, DVD 8.1x)
  max write speed:	11080 KiB/s (CD 73.8x, DVD 8.1x)
  write speeds: 11080 KiB/s (CD 73.8x, DVD 8.1x)
			5540 KiB/s (CD 36.9x, DVD 4.0x)

Media:
  label: ''
  type: DVD-R, or DVD-RAM (blank)
  is writable: TRUE
  is appendable:	FALSE
  capacity: 4488.06 MiB
  size: 0.00 MiB
---

Insert a blank DVD and it shows as blank on the desktop, but Brasero
fails with :

BraseroGrowisofs stderr: :-( /dev/scd0: media is not recognized as
recordable DVD: 10
