This happens when there is a crash and apport starts automatically, asks you the corresponding questions, starts sending the information to Launchpad and tells you that the bug has been already reported and that you should take a look to the bug report. If the bug report is private what you get is Launchpad telling you "Lost something?", as if it couldn't find the bug, while I believe what's going on is that the reported bug is private and is not shown to you. Could that "Lost something?" window be improved? For a normal user reporting a bug, this window would be sort of frustrating. Okay, so lets try something. I have created two versions of the same page, and one of them uses heavy non-explanatory graphic content only and the second doesn't. I would like you to have a look at those, one by the other, and tell me which one do you prefer and why. Also, if this seems good to you, to tell what you would change from that chosen one. If you can give me an opinion this way, I think we all could agree. But remember having both versions at view at the same time on your screen, or the experiment wouldn't be valid. This means you'll need a desktop with a wide screen or two screens. Here you have the pages: - - Thanks. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... One could look at the apport package hook for debian-installer which is found in /usr/share/apport/package-hooks/source_debian-installer.py to see which log files would be added to the bug report by apport. Here is the package hook in the apport source branch for utopic: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/utopic/apport/utopic/view/head:/data/package-hooks/source_debian-installer.py Using that information you could ask for the same information. -- Brian Murray Ubuntu Bug Master -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... And the answer to this question, for my great surprise, has been trying to do too well. That means, trying to seize every single thing as perfectly as it can be seized; so everyone could agreed with it, and make and integrative environment. But this translated to very little being done, my humour becoming from playful to acid, and me wanting to kick some asses to the infinity and beyond. And the reason for that has been I changed from doing good work (including integrating other points of view), from making the work to look good to people. From changing quick wins to perfect utopias. So instead of waiting for polishing, I'm launching things Now; and completing them on the go. And also postponing discussions till I felt done work is good enough for not failing into debating irrelevant details early on. If you like it, great. If you don't, welcome to success: iterative improvement of barely good things , and priorities over truths. Going to the point: I have taken the triaging guide and tested what will happen if I broke it into smaller parts. And this is what occurred (some links still missing). I'm using visuals in all the content I'm creating. On the other hand, I'm not pushing this into the bug documentation right now; but rather I'm building on the go a prototype of a bug triaging system in the One Hundred Papercuts project, which basically is the same we have now but with: * Information broken into the smallest parts. * Visuals. * Redaction understandable by everyone. The aim is to provide tools for fixing bugs not only for interested developers, but to any person that uses Ubuntu. Ideally this would mean that users will be willing and capable of fully triaging their bugs themselves, what probably would have the biggest impact in software quality at this moment. Yes, it is unusual to SRU a large new release like this into an older release. If there are specific bugs affecting 6.7, the fixes can be backported from 6.8 (if somebody is willing to put the effort in), and those individual patches can be SRU'd. Aside from that possibility, the default thing that will eventually happen is that 6.8 will get synced from debian to vivid. Team, can anyone answer Tobias this question? Thank you. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... For some reason the lp:ubuntu/gedit branch is (heavily) outdated. The last commit is dated 2011-06-28. See: https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/vivid/gedit/vivid I suppose the packagers use another location for the Ubuntu gedit package?? Click on code in the new web page. At https://code.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gedit find link to https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-desktop/gedit/ubuntu as that is most recently modified and that looks like the branch you want. More simply one could use apt-cache showsrc gedit and look at this line: Vcs-Bzr: https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-desktop/gedit/ubuntu Also when you run apt-get source there is this message: NOTICE: 'gedit' packaging is maintained in the 'Bzr' version control system at: https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-desktop/gedit/ubuntu Please use: bzr branch https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-desktop/gedit/ubuntu to retrieve the latest (possibly unreleased) updates to the package. -- Brian Murray Ubuntu Bug Master -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Lists Of Bugs (http://tinyurl.com/mbawb9r) does smarter now by taking into consideration both of them. Even being so simple, looks like a huge improvement; specially after triaging for a while. It feels like the 80% of quality comes from the 5% of pending work. -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
