I’m running ubuntu 12.04 and keepalived as load balancers for our network. I’ve recently upgraded one to 14.04 and it appears that none of the ipv6 services are working. The vrrp does move the addresses but the ports are not open and there is nothing listed in ipvsadm -l I tried to directly list ipv6 service and got the following: ipvsadm -L -t [2001:xxxx:xxxx::xxx]:xxx Resource temporarily unavailable ipvsadm v1.26 2008/5/15 (compiled with popt and IPVS v1.2.1) Keepalived v1.2.7 (08/14,2013) Any assistance would be appreciated. I did a fresh install from a live USB. Ubuntu Trusty works absolutely fine on my Dell Latitude E6400 and E6430 laptops and I am very happy with its performance. However, I can't even get to the lightdm login on my Dell E6440 (running AMD hybrid graphics). Instead, I am greeted with a low-graphics mode pop-up and can only drop back to a shell session. Trying to restart lightdm just keeps showing the same pop-up. In the last 3 day, I have kept the system up to date via a chroot on my parallel Debian install and tried again to boot Ubuntu Trusty, but still nothing. Still running my Debian unstable system with GNOME 3 for now. Any suggestions ? Thanks. Ghis -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... From martincigorraga at gmail.com Sun Apr 6 10:28:56 2014 From: martincigorraga at gmail.com (=?UTF-8?Q?Mart=C3=ADn_Cigorraga?=) Date: Sun, 6 Apr 2014 07:28:56 -0300 Subject: Screensaver isn't triggered right after the first boot Message-ID: Hi all, I'm not sure if this qualifies as a bug but anyways here are my 0.2cents: I noticed that on a fresh boot the screensaver will not be triggered, may be because no user is already logged so there's no such policy enabled.[0] Now, the downside of this behaviour is that computers turned on and awaiting for users to be logged will stay indefinitely with their monitors/screens on, wasting energy and degrading the hardware. Nowadays it's a common practice in public institutions and companies to shut down every device that's not running any critical service mostly for two big reasons: a. security measures and b. to cut energy and hardware waste to save money. The problem is that on next morning when staff turns on the systems again the machines will keep their screens on all the time until coworkers or general public - like on a public library - arrives. I could think of several workarounds like adding a cron job or even something simpler, an 'at' command to every /etc/rc.local to instruct to `xset -display :0 dpms force off' at a given time to ensure the monitors will be properly off after system boot until users arrive, but I would prefer to stay away from any non-necessary hack if there's an official, supported way to do this. Thank you very much! [0] I'm guessing here, I'm not familiarized with Ubuntu's internals... -- /Martin -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Once apport finishes retracing the bug there is no need to keep the coredump anymore; additionally, coredumps are usually full of private data. Since the retrace can expose private data, apport-retraced bugs are kept private. As already commented below by Daniel, the members of Ubutu Bug Control can look at the bug, verify no private data is exposed, and mark the bug public. The task for the package in Ubuntu should only be considered Fix Released when the fix is available for Ubuntu users. By default tasks are considered to affect the development release of Ubuntu, so if the fix were in Trusty then it could be marked Fix Released. Many bug reports are set to Fix Released automatically by the Launchpad bug janitor which modifies bugs known to be fixed by a specific upload. CONTEXT --------- It's a retirement home so the elders don't have good eyesight nor good hearing. When I was showing him "Software Central" to list all the card games he could install and play, the fonts were to small on the netbook I was using. He couldn't read anything. So I went to settings->display and changed the font scale from 1.0 to 2.0. He could read the letters ok at that size. BUG -------- The windows could not be adjusted in terms of size. The windows could were not scrollable. I could not revert back to the previous settings->display-> 1.0 scale. I tried unity-tweaks to try to reset to the defaults for the display, but I had similar issues and couldn't move the window in any manner in order to see the other controls in the window because the window was hard-coded to be fixed in size. I was stuck in an unworkable large font display mode with windows that couldn't scroll/resize to change anything back. BOTTOM LINE ----------- Ubuntu Trusty on a netbook is not SENIOR-FRIENDLY enough yet. Could these be expressed as Accessibility bugs or Display bugs? I tend to believe it's a display bug because the Seniors have all their fingers, eyes and ears, but they just aren't has good as they used to be. They just need higher volumes, bigger fonts with scrollable/resizeable windows everywhere. GUI's should be scrollable/resizeable/orientation-changeable in order to accommodate the Seniors audience. Being that Ubuntu Trusty is the base for Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Touch, please keep Seniors in mind. Otherwise, you will lose the capability to reach that market for ad-based revenue since they won't be using Ubuntu. Thanks for listening. This was a problem in 13.10 but we are going to face a whole new rash of angry users who were waiting for 14.04 to reinstall their old OS. I'm on a roaming mobile network and can't download the iso but I saw the bug has not yet been closed. Can someone please check if the issue persists. (Sorry if this is just a false alarm) Steps to reproduce: Choose the "replace OS" option in the ubiquity installer on a computer (or VM) with a separate OS partition (Windows C: or Linux /) and one or more data partitions (Windows D: or Linux /Home). The whole hard disk and _all_ partitions will be erased. Can a last minute post release bug fix be applied to the iso? I think it is pretty important. Basic Fix: Disable the replace OS option or rename it to Erase Entire Disk. Thanks.
