Ubuntu (nautilus) can avoid presenting a UI that reminds newcomers of a
Windows "Safely remove..." interface they are already used to, so that
they do not accidentally power down a device which they cannot in fact
physically disconnect and reconnect.

Relabelling this menu item as "Power down external device" is one way to
do this, now under consideration.

Just because there is no low level technical solution does *not* mean
that an issue or bug cannot be addressed.
