A High imporance bug is one that [1] * Has a severe impact on a small portion of Ubuntu users (estimated) * Makes a default Ubuntu installation generally unusable for some users * For example, if the system fails to boot, or X fails to start, on a certain make and model of computer * A problem with an essential hardware component (disk controller, laptop built-in wireless, video card, keyboard, mouse) * Has a moderate impact on a large portion of Ubuntu users (estimated) * A bug which impacts accessibility of a core application Thank you, [1] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance -- C de-Avillez IRC: hggdh This email (and any attachments) is digitally signed using GNUpg (http://gnupg.org). Well, not really. I cannot see it as a moderate impact. One can still use the virtual kernel, and the impact on resources is minimal. I, nevertheless, agree that it does not seem to make sense to have wireless-crda on a virtual machine. > You guys are pushing EC2 based kernels and > images. For Ubuntu this means that members of ubuntu-bugcontrol can now add and remove official bug tags. This is done by clicking the "Edit official tags" link at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu. The official bug tags are useful because they are suggested when someone is adding a new tag to a bug report and because they appear first in the list of bug tags on a bug report. When managing the tags my thought process has always been that they should be tags people would add and not ones that are automatically added. This is why regression is an official tag and apport-crash is not. It also seems to me that the official tags should be usable on multiple packages. -- Brian Murray Ubuntu Bug Master -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Currently, you can find opportunities regarding crash reports needing a bug pattern and bugs that need an SRU verification performed. The neat thing, in my mind, about using harvest for this is that it presents the opportunities on a package or package set basis and you can more quickly filter on the type of work you want to do. I loaded up 10.10 on my computer and managed to "make" the programs I needed but find an issue with the AC97 sound card. All day and most of the night and day today I tried all the tips and nothing. It seems 10.10 isn't playing nicely with this program :( The program is DSD1.4.1 found here: http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/DSD - actually it is links to the two required files under DOWNLOAD. The mbelib-1.2.3-src.tar needs to be worked first as DSD requires this to operate. I got it all done, did the "make" and when I try to run it I get the following: Disigital Speech Decoder 1.4.1 mbelib version 1.2.3 ioctl reset error ioctl speed error ioctl stereo error ioctl setfmt eror Audio In/Out Device: /dev/audio I learned today from another user that the two prio versions of Unbuntu work but that 10.10 doesn't. As I said I tried all the tips on both sites but no luck. My internet connection is too slow to DL anything as large as this (17 hours) so I am a bit stuck! The other user also had the exact same issue using 10.10, and the sound still works, just not using the program DSD.... very odd. Hoping someone here can figure out whats going and maybe a fix for it. Thank you in advance! John -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... If it is present in emacs23 and doesn't qualify for an SRU, the package can just be changed. If it's present in emacs23 and qualifies for an SRU, a second task should be opened for emacs23. Most of the reporters on that bug appear to state the boot is slow and the message annoying, but the system is working. Will set to triaged and low if it is working. In my experience setting the importance of a bug right away is a useful way to provide additional methods for filtering on bug reports. Additionally, it is quite easy to change the importance if one discovers it is incorrect. -- Brian Murray Ubuntu Bug Master -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... In reality, even as far back as Hardy the installer has not worked. The last known installer that worked from what I have been told is Gutsy. So, the workaround would be to use the Gutsy installer and then upgrade to Hardy and then Lucid. It would be a silo dev's call whether or not to won't fix this. We should attempt to be a good upstream as we would like Debian to be to us, which means that if bugs exist in our version of the app as well, we shouldn't punt them, just because they use Mint. This is really interesting. If we apply this calculation to the packages installed by default in Natty, the top 10 looks like: shotwell - median: 189 empathy - median: 91 gcalctool - median: 86 gbrainy - median: 86 gwibber - median: 81 simple-scan - median: 76 software-center - median: 68 pitivi - median: 68 transmission - median: 60 gnome-bluetooth - median: 59 Compared to the list based on the number of bugs: evolution firefox gdmsetup nautilus nm-connection-editor ooffice software-center totem update-manager So I can not say that this is the list that I had in mind, but the result is expected. When we build the list based on volume of bugs, we get the most used applications. But when we use the bug heat we get the applications with fewer bugs but which are in need of triage (I'm not saying that the applications with a large number of bugs don't need triage) The list needs a closer look though. For instance: - shotwell is in 1rst position, but when I look at the reports, there are 2 bugs with a heat of 3491, and I don't see anything specific that could explain such a value. Is it the weight of untriaged report being a bit too important or something else ? It doesn't seem to match the bug heat algorithm. - gbrainy, I was surprised to find a game in the list. In fact, there is a very limited number of bugs filed against this package and some of them with high heat. I've triaged the report with the highest heat (>300) and it fell to a heat of 12. So the next run of your script should move it lower into the list. - gcalctool, same thing, the first bug had a heat of 237, and after asking for more information it fell to 8. So, yes, this is useful to help us to direct our testing and triaging effort. But the calculation of the bug heat needs to be clarified. Maybe this could be added to the 'Opportunities' list in harvest ? -- Jean-Baptiste irc: jibel From jeremy.foshee at canonical.com Tue Nov 30 18:54:53 2010 From: jeremy.foshee at canonical.com (Jeremy Foshee) Date: Tue, 30 Nov 2010 13:54:53 -0500 Subject: Kernel Bug Day Tuesday, 7 December, 2010 Message-ID: <20101130185453.GA2333@nightcrawler> Folks, It's time for another Kernel Bug Day. We'll be focusing on the Bugs tagged as regression-update [1]. There are currently 118 of these bugs with the vast majority needing tobe tested against the current release as well as the version under development. Any of you who would like to get a head start on triagingthes bugs, please feel free to do so. As usual, the resources needed to triage these bugs appropriately are located on the ubuntu wiki: General Triaging [2], Kernel Specific triage topics [3] and the Kernel Tagging page [4]. I'll be putting more information concerning this bug day up on the wiki [5] so check it often. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
