While it works well for me, I'm interested to hear how it works for other people before I integrate this new version into the Firefox extension[3] of the greasemonkey scripts. The tags should be automatically reloaded from the xml file every 1.5 days. Additionally, there is a [+reload+] tag that forces a reload of the tags right away. I've also moved the "Add tag:" section and displayed tags so that they are below the bug description and closer to the existing tags. If you think any tags should be added to the xml file, please file a bug about the Launchpad Greasemonkey Scripts project[4]. Thanks! The goal being to receive higher quality bug reports and reduce the amount of bug ping-pong necessary. While one could write an apport hook for any package we decided to identify the packages that might benefit the most from one. This was done by taking a sample of the 1000 most recent bug reports filed and determining which packages received the top 20% of bug reports by volume. Attached you'll find the data from the end of June. For example the linked data looks like: None: 181 linux - hook exists: 37 firefox-3.0 - hook exists: 35 pidgin: 24 The key is the package name with 'hook exists' appended if the package has an apport hook and the value being the quantity of bug reports. 'None' refers to bug reports filed about no specific package. The specification[1] contains the same statistics for the end of May and April. Any of the packages that appear in these lists are great targets for an apport package hook. You don't need to be an Ubuntu developer to write a package hook either - it just takes some knowledge of python and the target package. Examples of the hooks are located on every Ubuntu system in /usr/share/apport/package-hooks/ and additional information regarding writing them can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Apport/DeveloperHowTo. Testing your hook is as simple as adding an appropriately named file to the package-hooks directory and executing 'ubuntu-bug -p' and the package name. You can then review the attached files in the resulting apport dialog box, but please don't actually file the bug! If you do write a hook and can't get it added to the package yourself feel free to report a bug about the package missing a hook, add the hook as a patch and subscribe me to the bug report. But I have run into a problem. I've posted in the Ubuntuforums. But no solution has been forthcoming and in addition have found post by several other people apparently having the same problem recently. The problem is with "Ubuntu-9.04-remix-i386.img" file accessed through the main Ubuntu page. The actual link to this page is: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-netbook . I have downloaded this file numerous times and from numerous sites. Those being Purdue, MIT, and XMISSION. I ran the hashes and they worked out as delineated at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuHashes. I was using the 'winMD5sum' software. The next step was to save it to a flash drive which I did using 'win32DiskImager'. That occurred. So I safely removed my flashcard from my Windows XP system. Put the flash card into my netbook (Acer Aspire One) and booted using the alternative boot menu and selected to boot from the flashcard. I selected the option of "Check the file." The results came back saying that there was an error in 1 file. I repeated the above steps several times. Trying downloads from both Purdue and MIT. Each time with the same error report. So I decided to switch over to saving an ISO file on DVD. Now what was interesting is that I have "Roxio Creator 2009." One of it's features is the ability to copy ISO images. So when I opened it up it gave me a listing of what was available for ISO images and "ubuntu-9.04-netbook-remix-i386.img" was not one of the files that Roxio showed was available, even though I was in the correct directory. My next step was I downloaded "InfraRecorder" which detected the file as an ISO. I then burned a DVD with "InfraRecorder." What was interesting was after I burned the DVD. I tried to look at the directory of the DVD using Windows Explorer. I got some kind of message along the lines of unknown format. Not being a computer guru I went ahead and tried to install from the DVD unto the netbook. But what was different was the booting. I chose the alternative boot menu and selected the external DVD drive. The drive spun for awhile but the netbook ended up booting from it's existing system. The menu system for Ubuntu that is test drive, test file, install permanently never came up. Tried burning 3 separate DVD's in these attempts. OK. Mistakes happen so I downloaded another ISO burner package called "IsoBurner." Followed same steps and got the same results. I posted to the forums the problems I was having. One person responded that I should try downloading from XMISSION and use the command line flash burner "flashnul." I did as suggested. The results were the same as all the other times. So I am posting here. I'm not sure this is the correct list to do it on. But I hope if it isn't someone here will write someone else in the know about the problems I have (and several others) had as well. Thank you. We appreciate it. Please read http://wiki.ubuntu.com/HelpingWithBugs to start. We are always at the IRC channel #ubuntu-bugs, on irc.ubuntu.com. Please use this channel to ask any questions you may have, and I am sure someone will answer you. Basically, the BugSquad perform the triaging of open bug reports. We use https://launchpad.net/ubuntu to look for (mostly) New/Incomplete bugs, and we try to verify that the issue is correctly explained, and all needed documentation is gathered. This usually involves asking the reporter to explain and/or provide additional information about the issue. We do not expect a triager to be knowledgeable about all possible issues, so please select the bugs you feel yourself more comfortable with -- or even less unconfortable ;-) -- to work on. The link above is the start point for helping with the triage work. Again, thank you for helping, and please do not hesitate to ask your questions on the IRC channel.
