[Ubuntu-BR] Ubuntu 12.04 e Acer Aspire 4720z (Product Name Aspire 4320)

Olá,

instalei o Ubuntu 12.04 em um notebook Acer Aspire 4720z (Product Name
Aspire 4340).
Mas está insuportavelmente instável. Travando por completo, sem nem mesmo
me permite abrir um terminal.
Do nada a tela fica preta, sendo que as vezes exibe uma especie de log  e
outras não.
São mensagens de warning de "hard lockup", semelhante a relatada nesse
bug[0].

Alguém tem ideia do que possa ser e como resolver?
