Só complementando a informação do amigo Ivan.

O /etc/init.d/samba gerencia todos os processos relacionados ao Samba. Já o service smbd restart reinicia apenas o processo smbd. Caso vc utilize o nmbd e winbind, será necessário indicar esses serviços também

service smbd start|stop|status|restart
service nmbd start|stop|status|restart
service winbind start|stop|status|restart

Sim, isto mudou desde a versão 10.04.

Use os seguintes comandos:

service smbd restart

service isc-dhcp-server restart
