faz o seguinte comando e posta ai, para vê se ocorreu tudo certo:

$ ls -l /dev/ttyS* /dev/modem

a saida deve está parecida com:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root        6 2008-07-14 11:27 /dev/modem -> ttySL0
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 4, 64 2008-07-14 11:27 /dev/ttyS0
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 4, 65 2008-07-14 11:27 /dev/ttyS1
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 4, 66 2008-07-14 11:27 /dev/ttyS2
crw-rw---- 1 root dialout 4, 67 2008-07-14 11:27 /dev/ttyS3
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root       10 2008-07-14 11:27 /dev/ttySL0 -> /dev/pts/0
