    Ok, veja a saída do comando:

$sudo iwlist scan

   Veja, tenho eth0 que é ethernet e eth1 que é wire mas não está funcional:

eth0      Interface doesn't support scanning.
eth1      No scan results

    Se tiver uma saída como está é pq tua placa não está instalada.
Agora tem várias formas de instala-lá, você já tentou o Gerenciador de
Drivers Restritos do Ubuntu? Caso já e nada acontece, veja estes
