Yes, this device does pair and work with the desktop successfully as
'audio device' type. See below for info from hcitool:

When pairing the device with the phone, there is a greyed out speaker icon. With other speakers I have used they have paired as headset devices because they have mics built in too. This device doesn't have a mic, so it shows up as a speaker.
