This update didn't modify anything but udev rules for a controller that
you don't have (the controller is only present on dell hardware). It's
mearly a coincidence that the update changed the behavior for you.
Also, you're using the unsupported method of connecting/pairing using
hidd. The real problem here is that we need to get your mouse pairing
using the GUI utility. So to get started diagnosing that problem, lets
start out with a more recent version.
You can download a karmic alpha 2 image and install it to a USB stick.
Boot off it, and try to pair your mouse. If that fails still, then
we've got some more steps to start following to figure out what's wrong.
