For your current problem you might want to subscribe bug #186973. I'll
leave this one open until someone is able to confirm your experiences
with Ubuntu 7.10.
For Ubuntu 8.04, please see bug #186973.
Thank you
** Summary changed:
- Bluetooth doesn't work.
+ obexftp does not work
** Description changed:
+ See messages below for current error, this description is related to
+ Ubuntu 7.10
+
+ ----------------------------------------------------------
Binary package hint: gnome-bluetooth
There are many problems with this package that causes it not to work for
me. So I'll try to be thorough as I can be.
1) No icon is shown in the notification area. Under Bluetooth
Preferences there is an option to "Never display icon", "Only display
icon when adapter present", or "Always display icon". I set it to
"always display icon" but there is still never an icon. On my laptop,
which has Fedora, I have it set to "Only display icon when adapter
present" and it works. Using the same adapter even.
2) When you try to pair FROM your device nothing happens. You never
get notice of it on the computer. On my device (a Blackberry), I'm
asked to enter a passphrase, but once I do that, nothing happens in
Ubuntu. After a couple of seconds my device reports a failure.
3) When you try to pair FROM Ubuntu, Bluetooth Preferences crashes. I
go to the Services tab, select "Input service", then click Add. then
click Show all devices, select my device (Blackberry 8320), then press
Connect. My device prompts for a passphrase, which I enter. It then
causes Bluetooth Preferences (bluetooth-properties) to crash. Here is
what it says in the terminal:
matthew at matthew-desktop:~$ bluetooth-properties
process 3682: arguments to dbus_message_new_method_call() were incorrect, assertion "_dbus_check_is_valid_path (path)" failed in file dbus-message.c line 1074.
This is normally a bug in some application using the D-Bus library.
** ERROR **: Out of memory
aborting...
Aborted (core dumped)
-------------------------------------------------------
Again, same set up, same phone, same bluetooth adapter, works flawlessly
on my laptop with Fedora. So the bug must either be caused by my
desktop computer hardware, or by ubuntu itself. Thanks.
