I think the previous bitmappers' Release Party qualifies as "national"
one. So yes, we did it in the past. But I'm not sure any of its
organizer are still active here.

The bitmappers are still active. Last time we spoke about this idea on
IRC, somebody mentioned we might be able to hold a release party in
hackerspace BXL. This would be great as it is a very central location.
If we want to do this however, we need to: a) Ask permission (and get
that permission) to hsbxl; b) Find some cool ways to promote it; c) Have
some even cooler stuff to do there.

Anybody else has an input on this?
I'm member of HSBXL - the space is defenitely prepared to host this event. It just needs (a lot of) cleaning up at the moment. So in the near future, I don't think Ubuntu-be would be very happy inviting people here. If you do want to plan somethig:
1. get on the HSBXL mailinglist and ask/announce it.
(people will give feedback if there's a problem)
2. check the calendar on the website for event collision
(not much happening for the moment)

Obviously, there's also Hackerspace Ghent (0x20.be) and Hackerspace Antwerp (voidwarranties.be) that would probably be happy to have you over.

Grtz,
Anyhow, when I'm done with some projects I'm working on, I'll try to come to HSBXL more often. I found some people who'd also like to have a hackerspace in Hasselt. Non of them is really jumping to start it though... So sticking around there is a good start I think..

What kind of repository for what kind of ware? For software packaged
as .deb, we should be able to setup a Team PPA on Launchpad. Dev
files, even binaries, can be stored in Launchpad Bazaar branch
hosting. If you prefer Git, on GitHub or Gitorious. For others files,
we may be able to setup an easy solution to let some members to upload
files on our web server at ubuntu-be (if only a few trusted members
need it, we can grant them SSH access to the server), I think we have
enough free disk space for that.

Or are you asking about a central place to store tangible things in
the material world?

PS: Note that I said "We" several times, but I'm leaving Belgium in
about a month, so that's actually likely a "you" ;).

Haha, we were talking about a central place to store things in the
material world. There were some talks about maybe moving stuff over to
my parents' place, or to Jurgen's place. Now where it'll be stored
doesn't really matter to me, as long as it's fairly central. Now we,
sometimes, need 2 or 3 people to mail stuff when an event is planned...
it would be better/cheaper if we could just have 1 package that we sent
to a kiala point...
