IRC meeting 29/09/2010 – Report
Present at the meeting (in random order) : JanC, Clamam, massimo21,
Jean7491, ILUsion
1. Past and future events - September 2010
a. Dipro fair Hasselt (26/09) - report
Everything went well, see report
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/ComputerFairs/Hasselt_2010-09-26
When the booth is setup in U, chairs are needed for more comfort when
working on computer (to be requested by DIPRO organisator).
A "game-PC" was used to catch attention of visitors, especially young
public, as a first step before introducing Ubuntu. Frozen Bubble, frets
on fire, Alien Arena, Yo Frankie, nexuiz, battle of wesknoth,
astromenace, tux racer, world of padman, Gcompris, ... Some games are
not OpenGL supported and/or need hardware that's powerful enough. Games
are to be tested on available hardware (events-boxes or others) before
the event !
Eventually, we can add an item "Promotion - how to attract the attention
of visitors" (eyecatchers, use of games, ... on the agenda of a next
meeting, if requested.
b. Nielse Computer Dag (26/09) - report
Event was really nice. Good cooperation with local computer club Monitor
(the organisator). The team also made use of games and movies, like Big
Buck Bunny, on a tv screen, which got a bit of attention. Some demos on
netbook with external screen (video editing, GCompris, ...).
Report will be added in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/ComputerFairs/Niel_2010-09-26
c. Dipro fair Kortrijk (10/10)
For now, only 2 volunteers from Ostend and Brugge, and nobody from
kortrijk area ! We hope more volunteers from the area: please add your
names in the wiki
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/ComputerFairs/Kortrijk_2010-10-10
d. Dipro fair Brugge (17/10)
Volunteers are still welcome for a few hours !
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/ComputerFairs/Brugge_2010-10-17
e. Another event, for information, 21-22/10 Free software + computers
demo days in Ghent Zwijnaarde, organized by Linux-Service
f. Release parties for Maverick Meerkat 10.10
Ideas about parties ? It can be just for the fun to be together, i.e. a
real party (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i22efbYLj70 ) (but not
necessary large scale event). Local initiatiative is needed. More
(eventually) at the next meeting. Dipro fair Kortrijk on 10/10 is an
opportunity for a local meeting.
2. Promotion
a. Adding links to the website
The email contact-address for this matter (contact op ubuntu-be.org) is
ready, We will start (hopefully this week) with an announcement in the
mailing list and looking for interested companies/organizations through
personal contacts.
b. t-shirts for Ubuntu-be (warddr is leading the project, but not
present)
Result of the Doodle poll for a preselection: 14 votes, 7x v2-be, 6x
v4-be, 7x v6-be. See the designs in
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/PromotionMaterial/ProposalsT-shirts
. A new meeting lead by warddr is suggested to compare the price
estimations of the 3 preselected designs, and to take a final decision
or eventually to organize a new poll via Doodle ?
c. Ubuntu and Facebook
The Ubuntu-be Facebook group is now working with an animation team (and
administrating) :
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=87950312093
Everyone can just post on it. Volunteers to work in our Facebook team
can apply to through IRC meeting or the mailing-list.
Suggestions/propositions to improve our Facebook image and presentation
are welcome.
d. Ubuntu and Education
As we already discuss, we need an “Education-team” to help on the
promotion of Ubuntu in schools and everywhere (content and how to?). To
clarify the idea, suggested Education-team should be a discussion group
which could help with advice(s) the action teams and other people on the
field.
3. Update Wiki Belgian Team
a. A wiki page about linux/ubuntu courses exists and has been updated
with available information
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/Education/NL/Courses) : please feel
free to contribute to the update of the page.
Adding Belgian schools that use Ubuntu to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Education/UbuntuSchools might be a good task to
start with too.
b. Structure of the wiki
There are a lot of pages like stand-alone (sometimes outdated) because
not linked with the home page of the Belgian Team. It is suggested to
review the page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam and to link all (non
outdated) wiki pages to the home page through several levels. The 1st
level could be limited to 10 topics (1. Mission - 2. Who - 3. Contact-
4. Meetings - 5. Activities - 6. Education and documentation - 7. Public
Relations- 8. Material - 9. Support - 10. To Do)
and the rest could follow in other levels. Likely, we need a specific
meeting on this topic and a good preparation. Suggestions ?
4. Support points map status
The map has been replaced by a list of support points which renewed
their commitments. mongolito404 is working further on this issue,
5. Things living in the mailing list and others questions ?
Belgian Team monthly report : the aim is to inform Ubuntu community
about our activity - see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BuildingCommunity/TeamReporting . As we started
again activities in September, we have things to report.
See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BelgianTeam/TeamReports/10/CURRENTMONTH
September's report is due the first Sunday of October (03/10) ! JanC
will look into the team report. Who is volunteer to assist Jan in this
matter ?
6. Next IRC meeting on Thursday 07/10/2010 at 21.00 hr.
