[Ubuntu-be] IRC meeting on 13/05/2009 - Report

About the flyer. I contacted the designer I talked about a couple of months
ago to hear if he has something. I'll let you know later this evening or
tomorrow morning.

Here the report of the last IRC meeting.

1. Jaunty release party in Ghent 09/05 - Follow-up

Thank mimor for his work ! and he is now thinking about the next one !

Report will follow and pictures have been posted in the wiki.

Main problems :

- the release party was organized with a short preparation (only 2 weeks).

- not everybody is happy with the choice of Saturday evening : perhaps
it would be more successful on a weekday ?

- a better agenda and more demonstrations

What sort of presentations ?

- presentation of useful tips and tricks, that can mean a lot of things,
ranging from how to use mailing lists in Evolution to how to write your
own kernel driver,

- so maybe 1 or 2 presentations for beginners

What public do you target with the presentation on a release party?

newcomers or experienced people : if you target newcomers you should 've
another type of demo that experienced attendees.

if the purpose is to spread the word then newcomers should be the Nr one
focus group.

For attracting new users we additionally do things like the Dipro fairs

The party is (also) for the people who do a lot of volunteer work during
the rest of the year to come together and have some fun.

Further comments/suggestions on the previous and next release party can

2. Update preparation booth at Dipro fair Antwerpen on 24/05

About manning, the core-team is complete, but we need 2 additional
volunteers to be "confortable" from the opening (10 h.) till 13 h. A
request for help has been posted in the ubuntu-nl forum, but no reaction
(yet) !

About material, no problem


3. Next events

Dipro fairs in september 2009 : dates changed, no dipro Hasselt, on
06/09 in Ghent and on 13/09 in Antwerpen (for your agendas !

In Ghent there is a possibility of local initiative to try to get more
people in from wina & zeus for events in Ghent area.


4. Review of promotional material?

Before printing huge numbers of flyers, let's improve it !

mimor will take initiative, as he did for the flyer Release Party in Ghent.

Waiting new ideas about better flyers !


5. cleaning + update website and wiki

Wiki : to facilitate the work, a list of wiki pages to be checked and
updated should be prepared.

Website : there is a web editor team
(https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-be-webeditor) in charge of the
realisation and modification of the website. Bug reports procedure
should be used (see * https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-belgium ) so
that no double entries are posted and everybody can do a follow-up on
the status.

Suggestions

- to organize something as a ubuntu-be-website-hack-weekend

- to arrange a meeting so we can inform the interested people to join
that meeting (but waiting mongolito404 is back)
