I won't be surprised if some French company is involved though, and
their servers are (were already) Debian.
OTOH, from reading the presentation it seems like the ICT department of
the French "gendarmerie" is actually involved in open source development
themselves. They have 1900(!) people in that department (computers &
communication, which includes their radio network); nice to see them
give back to the community some of the time (= money) they won by moving
to linux...
One quote I'd like to put here:
"Moving from Microsoft XP to Vista would not have brought us many
advantages and Microsoft said it would require training of users. Moving
from XP to Ubuntu, however, proved very easy. The two biggest
differences are the icons and the games. Games are not our priority."
