Why not?

BTW: today at OSCON (very important Open Source Conference in the USA)
Microsoft released 20 000 lines of code for inclusion into the linux
kernel (to make it work better on their own Hyper-V software, but
still).  Microsoft was even one of the largest sponsors there...
