You only see what the user wants you to see, which isn't any different
from e-mail signatures IMHO.
And if you like "avatars" in mail/netnews messages, you can use an
'X-Face:' header... ;-)

Which isn't something unique to the web forum, I hope...
If people prefer to use the web forums, they are welcome to do so; it
probably fits their way of working better. But *personally* I just
can't see any advantage and several disadvantages (slow, no overview,
impossible to organise, sort, label or mark topics myself, etc.).
