Mailing lists & newsgroups are searchable too.  Even better: you can
often download the entire content of them and then search them without
internet connection...  :)

That's more or less true, although it's also possible to split up
mailing lists & usenet groups of course.

I don't understand what you mean here?

On most forums you don't know anything from people, not even their
e-mail address, so in fact you get even less info about them...
