Hoi,

IMHO, if your goal is ready-to-use but still simple and ease of
availability (on a maximum number of platform but with preference to
Ubuntu/Linux) and maximum freedom (now and later) then (optionally
downloadble) Ogg Vorbis/Theora (free as in speech codecs and specs.) +
Cortado (free as in speech) + Java VM (free as in beer software and
almost free as in speech specs.) in browser is probably a better
option than Flash (free as in beer and restricted specs.).

Flash is one apt-get installation away for (ubuntu) users on the right
platform (x86), as is Cortado (x86, PPC). On Windows and MacOS X,
Flash is bundled but Java is available. Plus, Ogg Vorbis and Theora
are available outside the browser to a broader audience than Flash.

Flash is probably easier on the server side since it's widely used and
documented on many places. But Cortado is probably not really
complicated.

Anyway, Captorials is a nice initiative and screencasted tutorials are
great and Bram deserve some support even with a Flash based website.
Maybe someone with knowledge and time may even help him (or start) on
a Captorials-NG projec using more free (as in speech) technologies.
