I edited the /etc/wvdial.conf file as per Omi's instruction. Closing the file does not allow me to use the terminal again. So I saved and quit the window. Typing wvdial gives the information that the modem is intialized but then put three lines stating that the configuration file does not specify a valid phone number, nor a valid username nor a valid password. I tried by deleting the default <> signs around these info and also by including them in quotes, always with the same result. I opened the /etc/wvdial.conf file and found that the information are there alright. So where lies the problem ?
Then again type "sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf" on the shell and a text editor will open. You have to modify the file according to the following instruction (NOTE: Change only Phone, Password and Username field, do not modify any of the other values, your computer will have some other settings value then this one):

[Dialer Defaults]
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
Modem Type = USB Modem
Baud = 460800
New PPPD = yes
Modem = /dev/ttyACM0
ISDN = 0
Phone = your_ISP_dialup_number
Password = your_password
Username = your_username

Now save the file and close the window. Type "wvdial" on shell and you will be connected.

After you get connected, do not close the terminal and follow that site's instruction to get a GUI dialer.

Hope it helps

--
