[Ubuntu-BD] upgrading ubuntu to 10.10

You have to update to 10.10 through internet or via alternate CD. You
cannot upgrade from the live cd. With live cd you can only install a
new system. As you said you are not interested in downloading your
installed software again. We suggested to skip it. Because, you should
not use older software in new version of Ubuntu.
However, since you are interested in if it is possible. Here is a
solution. You need to backup your downloaded packages from 10.04 (You
should already know how to do this). Then install 10.10 as a fresh OS.
After that try to install manually the saved packages from the backup
you have (You should also know how to do this). Most probably most of
the packages will not be installed because of the dependancy. I'd not
recommend this procedure.
There is no point in upgrading to a new OS when you cannot upgrade the
whole system because you don't want to go through the internet.
