Have you tried wvdial?

use wvdialconf to create the /etc/wvdial.conf
then username : waps
password : waps
Stupid mode = 1
dial *777# or something like that

It should work.

After testing successfully with wvdial you can get the gnome-ppp dialer and
then
copy the /etc/wvdial.conf to  ~/.wvdial.conf
It should let you dial graphically.
