You are wrong he didn't talk about keeping auto-update option on without
notifying etc.
The lock was solved by deleting the /var/cache/apt/archives/lock which was
the solution gotten from little googling with the error message in full. He
finally could install the nVidia envyng driver. But the problem retains is
his Wine applications cant show the GUI texts and they come garbled.
An attempt was tried turning off the Compiz effects and that results in GUI
improvement, which was even blocking the window titlebar to show properly.
And he can now see GUI texts (of menu, dialogbox etc) but now it shows messy
texts.
