[Ubuntu-BD] Kubuntu 8.10 Installation problem + network dead in Kubuntu 8.10 RC

In recent kernels, both PATA and SATA drives are handled by libata
library which names all the drives as sd* (sda1, sda2, sdb1 .. etc)

Did you boot linux from your HDD in your friends PC?!!? I will be
surprised if that works unless you both have identical hardware
configuration. It will be different story if you have tried to do so
and in that process you messed up configuration files of your
installation. In that case, coming back to you PC again, what will
work and what won't is "undefined".

But if you didn't boot your linux distor from your HDD, then your
friends OS is not supposed to see your partitions until you configure
to mount them. So no question of changing your config files.

Maybe the problem lies elsewhere!
